The Total Lunar Eclipse or Blood Moon of 2026 from our vantage in Lajitas, Texas was spectacular . Located between Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park, in some of the darkest skies in the United States, provided a great opportunity to photograph the Moon.

Waking up at 2 am, a 200 yard walk to my foreground mountain to set up the tripods, star trackers and cameras. My first shot was at 2:45 am with a few scattered clouds. Taking an image every 5-7 minutes at 560 mm focal length, I was able to capture clear images up until totality which is when the clouds rolled through, blocking and further images. The photo below is a 20 x 30 composition of the actual image size.
