Our original Costa Rica trip was planned for May 2022, but had to postpone it due to both Gail & I contracting COVID just 2 days prior to departure. Post COVID travel restrictions, we rescheduled and traveled early April 2023 for our 9-day, Fly & Self Drive Tour.

Typical narrow road and single lane bridge crossing

Below are two video’s of our self-drive tour that began in San Jose where we picked up our car and headed north to Arenal and Monteverde. Being our first trip to Costa Rica, we took advantage of the freedom by traveling at our own pace , along the narrow roads through tropical forested areas and roadside attractions or food stands, local must-see attractions, and the local restaurants and food that was outstanding. A few days later, it was south to Manuel Antonio for a few days where we enjoyed the Manuel Antonio National Reserve, plus I would enjoy two personal guided birding tours before driving back up to San Jose to return our car and fly back home the following day.
