Powertrain Controls Solutions - D200 Touchscreen Dash Logger It's not often that I am excited about a product that continues to amaze me the more I learn about it and this is certainly near the top of my list. I have been using the Edelbrock Kwik-Data Data Acquisition for years and had absolutely no problems with it whatsoever and it taught me a lot about the two race cars I had it installed in. The difference is that the D200 has several additional features that quiet frankly is not available on many other brands. What sets this unit apart from the others will be explained from my experience and opinion. To summarize the features that sets it apart from the rest are a touch screen display that can be tailored to suit your specific visual preferences, a playback feature that you can play you runs on the dash and watch the selected inputs as they happened together, it has a built in boost controller that can be customized to suit your needs, you can add on several options including an expansion module, EGT Module, 3-axis accelerometer & GPS via CAN bus. It also has the ability to receive several serial communication devices which in my case is the TEC3r Engine management system or the Innovate Motorsports LM1 or LC1 Air-Fuel device. Additionally, ALL this data is logged and stored and can be viewed on great software after being downloaded onto a laptop via a USB port. Another very powerful feature the software has is that you can insert your race data (in my case its the time slip) and you then have the ability to see exactly how the run looked at each of the timing points. Very Cool. The RED line is engine RPM, WHITE is clutch ROM, PURPLE is driveshaft RPM, GREY is boost, GREEN & YELLOW are EGT's, MAGENTA is MAT or 2-Step.
Notice the "problem" I have (between the magenta vertical lines) RPM is limited, boost falls off, traction falls off. How would I ever know if I couldn't see it? Just so that you can see the flexibility of this great "tool" here is what I have connected to the RX-8. All of this data can be viewed on the same log or pass as well as compare different runs, one above the other.
As can be seen in the points listed above, there is a tremendous amount of data to view and analyze which in turn permits you to make good decisions on what changes to make without guessing. For around $650, this is a bargain for any serious racer who want to take there program to the next level. There is a lot more this jewel can do that I haven't learned yet and I am sure the guys at PCS can help with any question you may have about this product. Thank you PCS for making such a fine product and tool for us racers. Check out the PCS web site: http://www.powertraincontrolsolutions.com/ They have a lot more great products to offer. |
