Year in Review of the 2007 racing season I feel like I must begin this years review by commenting on my thoughts about the end on the NHRA Sport Compact Drag Racing Series. WOW! This announcement was a BIG shock to me as well as many other racers I know and still is 3 months later. I just could not believe the NHRA just dumped us in the manor they did. What a class act! I bet Wally Park turned over in his grave when this happened. I am one of a few guys who has competed in this series since it began in 2001 and was fortunate to win the very last event this year in Pomona. Seven years of getting to know many great individuals: NHRA officials, a great many racers over the years and the many fans who "came along for the ride". The toughest part is that there will never be any more "Wally's". I am fortunate enough to have 8 of the prestigious trophies in my collection and will cherish them in Mr. Wally Park's honor, for what he stood for and for giving us sport compact or import drag racers a place to race. In my opinion, what happened to the Sport Compact Series is very similar to what happened with the Pro Stock Truck Series and the "demise" of the series began when Jim Skelly left. Then after Mr. Parks passed away, the writing was on the wall. What a shame. 2007 was a good year for this Team. Before anything else, I want to thank all of the guys who helped me get to this level, winning 4 of the 8 events. In no particular order, they are: Victor, Edaurd, Kilo, Tito, Lonnie, Russ, Gary, Dee, Pito, Juan, Graham & Rodney. My sponsors: Mazda, Powertrain Controls Solutions, Idemitsu Racing Oil, NGK Spark Plugs, Mickey Thompson, Innovate Motorsports, Decals Plus. The season blasted off to a fantastic start in which we won 3 of the first 4 events, made the ESPN2 Television highlight reels several times, qualified #1 and set a then World Record for the fastest 13B powered car with a 7.27 second elapsed time in Richmond, I got to race at Indy, we were lucky and we never gave up even though we went through a very bad "patch" after the summer break. We were also fortunate to race our first Match Race in Lakeland, Florida which was a lot of fun then most importantly, we have learned a valuable amount of information about the car after spending hours reviewing all the data logs gathered by the D200 Dash Logger. What a BLAST! Check out launch and notice the rear tire and the tree. Reaction Time: 0.034 seconds
