2000 Marked the beginning of my drag racing "experience" Who would ever have guessed that it would have sealed my relationship and my amazement with rotary engine powered vehicles. Beginning with my street car, a 1987 Turbo-II RX7 and then deciding to "preserve" it and then build the 1979 RX7 All Motor car. Here's how it happened!
My drag racing career began when, as a customer, I met Chris Ott and Ari Yallon of Rotary Performance, or otherwise know as RX7.com Through there knowledge and experience, I soon learned I could make great horsepower with a rotary engine. Always being a "do it yourself" type of guy and being involved in Motorsports for most of my life, I wanted to modify my 1987 Turbo II RX7 so I purchased a new Greddy turbo kit, had RP build the motor for me as I had no idea how the engine worked then put it all together in my garage at home.
Chris & Ari invited me to a local BF Goodrich Drag Wars event in March 2000, where I competed with my now modified RX7 in the Quick 8 Class. I finished in the runner up spot in my very first race and have been hooked ever since.
Below. The other guys racing in the RX7.COM camp were Ari Yellon and Steve Kahn in their 3rd Generation RX7's
In 2001, I committed and competed with that same Streetcar, a Mazda RX-7 Turbo II, in the inaugural NHRA Summit Import Drag Racing Series. 8 Events in all from coast to coast. I competed in 7 events and finished in 3rd place in the NHRA Import Drag Racing Series "Street Tire" National Championship. This in my first year of national competition. In 2002, I competed in all 10 events in the NHRA Summit Sport Compact Drag Racing Series (www.nhrasportcompact.com) in the "All Motor" Class. I qualified in the top 5 at every event, had 4 final round appearances and finished in 3rd plaice in the NHRA Sport Compact Drag Racing Series "All Motor" National Championship. More to come
